Donna and Kevin Fulmer Master Lake Murray

Donna and Kevin Fulmer, from Prosperity, SC, claimed the South Carolina Couples victory on Lake Murray on May 18. Their awesome 21.70 pound five fish sack was caught mostly on pearl Flukes and swimbaits.  They also had Lady’s and Men’s big fish honors. Donna’s fish weighed 6.10 pounds and Kevin’s was 4.90 pounds.

This was Donna Fulmer’s first bass competition. She expressed an interest in learning to fish about 6 months ago. Kevin started teaching her at that time. Donna’s big bass battle was a thrill for both of them. Donna worked to keep pressure on the fish while Kevin watched the bass dance and twirl, tossing the Fluke’s hook around in its mouth. The fish made it into the net and immediately into the livewell. It seems that not only the fish was well hooked, but now Donna is hooked on bass fishing!

The spring rain had stopped as the couples arrived at the boat ramp. Even though it was still overcast, the air had a welcoming warmth to it. Eleven couples launched that morning carefully guiding their boats through the light fog and around the floating debris.

Everyone arrived back to the ramp in good spirits because all had caught at least one fish. Many of the fish were caught using jigs, worms, lizards and brush hogs. Water temperature was about 62° and the air temperature rose to 72°F.

The first place winners were our wonderful division directors, Juanita Blasingame and Danny Presley. Their bag of fish weighed 12.17 pounds and won them $495. One of Danny's fish, weighing 4.79 pounds, earned him the Men's Big Fish award and $55. He's a fish charmer when he's using a jig!

Carolyn and Rick Leigeber Win On Wheeler

ATHENS, AL – Carolyn and Rick Leigeber won the sixth ABA Couples Series, AL North, Division 7 tournament held May 11, 2013 on Wheeler Lake. Running out of Ingalls Ramp, Decatur AL; the team caught 5 bass weighing 19.48 pounds. The victory earned them a check for $630. Rick’s 5.95 pound Lunker was Men’s Big Fish of the tournament. The team of Tracy and Larry Cameron won second place. They caught 5 bass weighing 18.96 pounds, and pocketed a check for $420.

Angela Braun’s 5.84 pound lunker was the Women’s Big Fish of the tournament.

Day one of a two day tournament on Lake Gaston had the couple from Manson, North Carolina weighing in five bass for a total of 13.53 pounds. They earned $ 270.00 using jigs. Cameron also landed Men's Big Fish for a weight of 4.25 pounds.
