Donna and Kevin Fulmer Master Lake Murray

Donna and Kevin Fulmer, from Prosperity, SC, claimed the South Carolina Couples victory on Lake Murray on May 18. Their awesome 21.70 pound five fish sack was caught mostly on pearl Flukes and swimbaits. They also had Lady’s and Men’s big fish honors. Donna’s fish weighed 6.10 pounds and Kevin’s was 4.90 pounds.

This was Donna Fulmer’s first bass competition. She expressed an interest in learning to fish about 6 months ago. Kevin started teaching her at that time. Donna’s big bass battle was a thrill for both of them. Donna worked to keep pressure on the fish while Kevin watched the bass dance and twirl, tossing the Fluke’s hook around in its mouth. The fish made it into the net and immediately into the livewell. It seems that not only the fish was well hooked, but now Donna is hooked on bass fishing!

The spring rain had stopped as the couples arrived at the boat ramp. Even though it was still overcast, the air had a welcoming warmth to it. Eleven couples launched that morning carefully guiding their boats through the light fog and around the floating debris.

Everyone arrived back to the ramp in good spirits because all had caught at least one fish. Many of the fish were caught using jigs, worms, lizards and brush hogs. Water temperature was about 62° and the air temperature rose to 72°F.

The first place winners were our wonderful division directors, Juanita Blasingame and Danny Presley. Their bag of fish weighed 12.17 pounds and won them $495. One of Danny's fish, weighing 4.79 pounds, earned him the Men's Big Fish award and $55. He's a fish charmer when he's using a jig!

Carolyn and Rick Leigeber Win On Wheeler

ATHENS, AL – Carolyn and Rick Leigeber won the sixth ABA Couples Series, AL North, Division 7 tournament held May 11, 2013 on Wheeler Lake. Running out of Ingalls Ramp, Decatur AL; the team caught 5 bass weighing 19.48 pounds. The victory earned them a check for $630. Rick’s 5.95 pound Lunker was Men’s Big Fish of the tournament. The team of Tracy and Larry Cameron won second place. They caught 5 bass weighing 18.96 pounds, and pocketed a check for $420.

Angela Braun’s 5.84 pound lunker was the Women’s Big Fish of the tournament.

Kristie Hall Win on Lake Gaston

Day one of a two day tournament on Lake Gaston had the couple from Manson, North Carolina weighing in five bass for a total of 13.53 pounds. They earned $ 270.00 using jigs. Cameron also landed Men's Big Fish for a weight of 4.25 pounds.

Jeffery and Stephanie Archie Win on Kentucky Lake

ATHENS, AL – Jeffery and Stephanie Archie won the American Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Kentucky Division 8 tournament, held May 5, 2013, on Kentucky Lake. Running out of Paris Landing near Paris, Tennessee the team from Paris, Tennessee caught five bass weighing 21.59 pounds with a 5.16 pound kicker that resulted in big fish of the tournament. For the victory, they earned a check for $450.

In second for the teams, David and Sharon Seaton of Buchanan, Tennessee caught five bass weighing 17.21 pounds. They pocketed a check for $300.

Taking third place, the team of Donnie and Lila Williams of Paris, Tennessee caught five bass weighing 17.17 pounds.

John and Angela Win on Lake High Rock

ATHENS, Ala. – John and Angela Mayo won the American Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, NC Division 4 Tournament, held May, 5, 2013, on Lake High Rock. Running out of Dutch Second landing, near Sailbury, NC, the team from Maiden, NC, caught 5 bass weighing 12.45 pounds with a 4.18 pound kicker. For the victory, they earned a check for $315.

In second for the 7 teams, Paul Huskins and Shelby English of Marion, NC, caught 3 bass weighing 7.37 pounds with a 4.05 pound kicker. They earned a check for $210.

Taking third place, the team of Dale and Wendy Meder of Cary, NC, caught 2 bass weighing 5.91 pounds with a 3.49-pound kicker.

Misty Lewis and Rusty Satterfield Win on Douglas

From Tennessee Division 9 tournament on Douglas Lake in Dandridge, TN, April 20, 2013 – Self-proclaimed “netter”, Misty Lewis worked hard to bring in the fish that “catcher”, Rusty Satterfield hooked. With teamwork like this, they brought 16.30 pounds to weigh-in. Even though it rained the day before and temperatures only rose to 60°F, Misty and Rusty were able to find the big ones using various colored jigs and fishing a variety of locations, the couple brought in five big fish. The biggest of the bunch, weighing 4.12 pounds, did double-duty and gave Rusty men’s big fish.

Rick Moore & Donna Millner Win on Apalachicola River

ATHENS, AL – Rick Moore and Donna Millner won the American Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Florida Northwest Division 6 tournament, held April 13, 2013 on Apalachicola River.

Running out of White City Landing, the team from Shalimar, Florida, caught 5 bass weighing 8.75 pounds with a 3.13-pound kicker. For the victory, they earned a check for $225.

In second place Robert and Debbie Kolmetz, of Ponce de Leon, Florida, caught 5 bass weighing 7.40 pounds with a 2.90-pound kicker.

Robert Kolmetz, won the Men's Big Fish contest with a 2.90 pound lunker. Donna Millner won the Ladies Big Fish title with a 3.13 pound lunker.

Rick and Tammy Win on Lake Norman

ATHENS, AL – Rick and Tammy Jones won the American Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, North Carolina Division 4 Tournament, held April, 20, 2013, on Lake Norman.

Running out of Queens McCreary landing near Denver, North Carolina, the team from Taylorsville, NC, caught 5 bass weighing 11.76 pounds with a 4.62 pound kicker. For the victory, they earned a check for $540.00.

In second for the 12 teams, Don and Donna Poteat of Morganton, NC, caught 5 bass weighing 11.16 pounds. They earned a check for $360.00.

Taking third place, the team of David Gunderman and Elizabeth Bank of Gastonia, NC, caught 5 bass weighing 10.55 pounds with a 3.76-pound kicker.

Ana Terry and Brad Rutherford Conquer Lake Hartwell

Ana Terry and Brad Rutherford claimed the victory on Lake Hartwell Saturday, April 20, 2013. Ana and Brad are both college seniors who are set to graduate in May from University of Georgia and Young Harris College, respectively. They caught their 15.20 pound sack with swimbaits and fish-head spins. Their ABA South Carolina Couples team is doing quite well this season. In addition to winning the April 20 Hartwell tournament, they also have a second place finish on Lake Russell and an earlier win on Hartwell in March.
