South Central Regional Anglers Make National News

TEXARKANA, TX. – “Tuff men wear pink”, said Terry Arnold, Executive Director of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, as she addressed almost 400 Bassmaster Weekend Series anglers from the South Central division. Arnold was a surprise guest at the opening dinner for the Regional Championship here in Texarkana.  Her opening statement stemmed from the sea of anglers who had donned pink to show support for their tournament crew member, Denise Trimble, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in the spring of this year. Trimble sat speechless as tears streamed down her face, overwhelmed by the love and kindness these anglers had shown her and her husband, Porter Trimble, the South Central Tournament Manager. “Faith, hope, and courage will carry you through your journey as you dig deep to find your inner strength”, said Arnold addressing Trimble. “I know you’re a strong woman, and with all these people supporting you, you will beat this”, she concluded.

And, the anglers weren’t the only ones honoring breast cancer survivors. The waite staff and bartenders wore pink armbands over their tuxedo jackets to also show their support. 

Welcoming the crowd was the Mayor of Texarkana, the honorable Bob Bruggeman. The anglers’ Registration and dinner was the inaugural event held in the newly completed, state of the art, Texarkana Convention Center. “We are thrilled to have each of you in Texarkana and have looked so forward with anticipation of you all being our first event to be held here”, said Mayor Bruggeman.

“The city of Texarkana has gone above and beyond to welcome us to Texas”, said Debra Talley, National Marketing Director of American Bass Anglers, the parent company that operates the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series. “I had the opportunity to do a ‘preview tour’ of the facilities back in the spring when construction was in the early stages. The new Hilton Garden Inn and Texarkana Convention Center are both fantastic venues that will showcase all types of events that come to the city. The state of the art facilities, and professional staff, will surely lure many new conventioneers and all types of party functions. Being in this facility was a real treat for our anglers and we sincerely appreciate the hospitality that Texarkana has extended to us”, said Talley.

The best anglers and co-anglers from the Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas East, Texas Southeast and Arkansas divisions will begin competition tomorrow in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series Regional Championship tournament, on Lake Wright-Patman.

The tournament runs out of Sportsman’s Cove located at Clear Springs Park, Texarkana, TX. In a grueling season, the top anglers in these divisions battled through four one-day tournaments and a two-day divisional championship to advance to the regional tournament.

Anglers and co-anglers compete for a Triton Boat package, cash prizes and a chance to fish in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series National Championship. The National Championship tournament takes place Nov. 7-10 at Lake Sam Rayburn, in Jasper, Texas.
