Cooke Wins Big on Lake Erie
ATHENS, Ala. – Scott Cooke wins the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Ohio Division 20 championship tournament, held Aug 25-26, 2012, on Lake Erie.
Running out of Shelby Street Landing in Sandusky, Scott Cooke of Marengo, OH, had a total weight of 32.22 pounds. He had a large lead from Day 1 with his catch weighing 19.45 and finished the second day with 12.77. He anchored his bag with a 4.94-pounder which secured the big fish title. He pockets 2 checks for a total of $2,751.
“I usually fish Lake Erie about ten times a year. I practiced two days and all the areas I fished in the tournament I found in practice. I checked all the stuff I know well, quite well and knew I could catch three to three and a half pounders but I also knew I had to get four to five pounders to win the tournament.”
In second, Ron Nutter Jr. of Newark, OH, landed two repeated five bass daily limits for a total of 25.63 pounds and biggest bag on Day 2 with 13.92 pounds. He tied for third last month at Alum Creek and a top ten finish at Mosquito. His second place finish today brings home a check for $1,272.
In third for the boaters, David Dudley of Dublin, OH, weighed in nine bass with a total 23.95 pounds. After Day 1 he was sitting in eighth place with 12.11 pounds but came back on Day 2 with another good bag for 11.84 pounds making his payday $848. Ron Terlop of Cleveland, OH, receives the honors for big fish with his 5.13-pounder.
In the Co-Angler Division, Brian Kich of Berea, OH, caught a two-day total weight of 18.79 pounds. In seventh place on Day 1 with 8.19 pounds he came back with the largest bag for Day 2 weighing 10.60 pounds, bringing home the big fish trophy for his 4.30-pounder for the co-anglers and a check worth $1,272 for his win.
In second, William Gross of Olmsted, OH, was five for five with a total 17.02 pounds with Day 1 being the better for 11.60 pounds and Day 2 for 5.42 pounds bringing home $636.
In a close third, William Killilea of Chillicothe, OH had two good days for 8.29 and 8.50 pound bags for a total of 16.79 pounds and $425 in his pocket.
