Fonzi wins on the big water

ATHENS, Ala. – Joe Fonzi headed out to the big water to win the third Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, New York Division 23 tournament, held Aug. 11, 2012, on Lake Ontario.

Running out of Henderson Harbor, the Gasport, N.Y., angler caught five bass weighing 21.55 pounds to win the Boater Division. He anchored his bag and his victory with a 4.96-pound kicker.

In second for the boaters, Neil J. Farlow of Welland, Ontario, brought in a five bass tournament limit for a 19.45-pound tally. Dan Bassett Jr. of Baldwinsville, N.Y., landed in third with five bass and 18.92 pounds, but his 5.44-pounder took the tournament big bass title.

Sean Caswell of Highland, N.Y., took fourth among the boaters with five bass and 18.90 pounds. Frank Guarascio of Whitesboro, N.Y., followed in fifth place with five bass and 18.27 pounds.

In the Co-Angler Division, Keith DiLuzio of North East, Pa., landed a three-bass division limit weighing 13.31 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 4.46-pound kicker.

Brian E. Depto of Kane, Pa., and Stephen “Safo” Longobardi of Northford, Conn., tied for second among the co-anglers. Each brought in three keepers for 11.85 pounds. Depto anchored his bag with a 4.56-pound kicker.

Kevin J. Phelps of Allentown, Pa., took fourth among the co-anglers with three bass and 11.68 pounds including a 5.19-pound kicker. Jim Cousineau of Westfield, Mass., found three keepers to finish in fifth with 11.67 pounds, but took division lunker honors with a 5.31-pounder.
