Dunn Takes Kentucky Lake Victory
 ATHENS, AL – Clifford A. Dunn finished out the regular divisional season with a win during the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Tennessee Central Division 3 tournament, held July 28, 2012, on Kentucky Lake.
Running out of Birdsong Resort & Marina near Camden, the Lascassas angler caught five bass weighing 19.53 pounds with a 5.78-pound kicker. For the Boater Division victory. He padded his winnings with a hefty bonus from Mercury outboards.
“We started with Spooks and buzzbaits,” Dunn revealed. “We caught an early limit and starting throwing spinnerbaits. The key was finding long, tapering points with scattered grass. Later, we moved out to the ledges and caught some on black and blue jigs. I lost a couple fish.”
In second for the boaters, Anthony W. Nash of Quebeck caught a five-bass tournament limit to finish with 18.92 pounds. His biggest bass weighed 5.37 pounds, netting him $971.
“We were fishing grass beds with steep ledges and a back channel running close to it,” Nash explained. “I caught weight fish on a green pumpkin jig and a sexy shad buzzbait.”
Mickey L. Beck, a Carlisle Tires representative from Lebanon, placed third with five bass going 18.86 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 5.86-pound kicker to set the tournament big bass standard.. He also went home with a sizeable bonus check from Triton Boats as the Triton Gold winner.
“We caught fish around the grass,” Beck said. “They were eating a black buzzbait pretty good. We had a good topwater bite and then we started ripping green pumpkin jigs out of the grass. We were fishing 12-foot deep ditches on the secondary. They bit all day for us.”
David Gnewikow, a Royal Purple pro from Mount Juliet, placed fourth among the boaters with five bass at 15.67 pounds. Kevin Tidwell of Bon Aqua wrapped up the top five boaters with five bass and 15.88 pounds including a 5.06-pounder.
 In the Co-Angler Division, Brandon A. Tramel of Smithville won his second victory in the past four events. Fishing with Gnewikow, Tramel brought in three bass weighing 9.93 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 3.69-pounder that took the division lunker title. For the victory, Tramel pocketed $1,021 plus another $101 for the big bass.
“The big fish hit a buzzbait,” Tramel said. “It was the second keeper I caught. I caught most of my fish off white buzzbaits down one stretch of grass line. We fished a bunch of spots, but all the keepers came off that one spot. We kept going back and forth hitting that spot.”
On March 17, 2012, Tramel won a Tennessee Central Division 3 event on Center Hill Lake. Tramel also took second place on June 16, 2012, in an event at Old Hickory Lake.
In second place, Marty Maynard of Cookeville found a three-bass division limit weighing 8.82 pounds. He capped his catch with a 3.66-pounder.
“We fished shallow and deep,” Maynard explained. “We fished the grass on both the main lake and some of the coves.”
John Lawson of Franklin also found a three-bass division limit for 8.24 pounds. For his first BWS top three finish.
“We stayed on the secondary river channel and caught fish on a lot of different baits around grass,” Lawson said. “I caught fish on a frog, Texas-rigged worms and punch baits. It was pretty steady all day.”
Donnie L. Rubel of Murfreesboro placed fourth among the co-anglers with three bass weighing 8.19 pounds with a 3.08-pound kicker. Reginald “Carl” C. Gilles of Nashville rounded out the top five co-anglers with three bass and 7.83 pounds.
