Norman Wraps Up Ohio Season with Win
ATHENS, Ala. – Harvey J. Norman wrapped up the regular divisional season by winning the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Ohio Division 20 tournament, held July 28, 2012, on Alum Creek.
Running out of New Galena Marina, the 46-year-old Sunbury angler caught five bass weighing 12.69 pounds. He anchored his catch with a 3.42-pound largemouth.
“I grew up fishing this lake,” Norman said. “I used a wide array of baits to catch fish shallow at mid-ranges and as deep as 14 feet. Shallow-running crankbaits worked best for the shallow fish. I caught my deeper fish on football jigs. All the big fish hit football jigs.”
In second for the boaters, Nick J. Prvonozac of Warren brought in a five-bass tournament limit for 9.78 pounds. He capped his catch with a 3.56-pound lunker to take the Boater Division big bass title.
In third for the boaters, James Jacobus of Johnstown and Ron Nutter Jr. of Newark, Ohio, tied. Each landed five bass going 8.47 pounds. Ryan Stumpf of Johnstown placed fifth among the boaters with a five-bass limit for 7.47 pounds.
In the Co-Angler Division, Jason T. Brown, 39, a teacher from Westlake, landed three bass weighing 7.53 pounds. He anchored his catch with a 3.34-pounder.
“I fished these water twice before,” Brown said. “We were fishing rock piles in six to 10 feet of water with a drop shot. I caught the last one, my biggest one, on a deep-running crankbait.”
In second among the co-anglers, Brett W. Warrick of Westerville landed a three-bass division limit for 6.55 pounds. He also set the tournament lunker standard with a 3.78-pounder.
Taking third among the co-anglers, Danny J. Ryan of Cleves brought in three keepers for 5.79 pounds, followed by Brian G. Kich of Berea with three bass and 4.92 pounds including one 2.28-pounder. Gary D. Johns of Piqua rounded out the top five co-anglers with a three-bass effort for 4.69 pounds.
