Hojin Chang Takes Lead at BWS Nationals

Russellville, AR......Under beautiful skies, Hojin Chang of Orlando, Florida, took over the lead today on the third competition day of the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series National Championship. “I’m just really, really nervous,” said Chang. “The fishing here is a lot different than my home lakes of Toho and the Harris Chain. With the way practice went, I didn’t have much hope of doing anything. But, I figured I would just use what I do back home and try to make it work. My plan tomorrow is catching fish – just 5 good fish!” he continued.

In second place is Brandon Gray of Bullock, North Carolina. “I feel good; I’m gonna do, basically, the same thing I’ve been doing all week. I just picked up a crank bait the first day and that’s what I’ve been doing all week. I feel like they’re there, but they just won’t bite. Basically, when I saw the shape of the lake condition when I got here, I believe it was the worse I’ve ever seen. Everythin’ I did in practice was just fish. I really, really want to get just 5 bites. I’m gonna give it all I’ve got. But, you know the Man upstairs already knows who that’s gonna be, and I’m gonna shake the man’s hand who wins!” he concluded.

Still in the lead on the co-anglers’ side is Merrill Showers of New Columbia, Pennsylvania. “I’m scared to death – a nervous wreck,” said Showers. “I didn’t even catch one fish today and I’m still in the lead. We traveled all over the lake today trying to find them. My boater tried to find them for me. My partner tomorrow is Hojin Chang, and we fish exactly the same way! I’m very excited over having him. I’m going to carry 4 rods and a very light tackle bag; I’m focused; I know what I have to do – I tell you, this is mental anguish. This morning I asked the Lord again for a bucket of luck and it came at the end of the day! I’m just still hoping it pays off tomorrow and I can get that Toyota Tundra!!! I want to also take the opportunity to thank all the folks at ABA for making this possible. This has been a great week!”

The Tournament continues through Saturday with weigh-ins each day at 3pm. The publice is invited out to watch and see who the lucky angler will be that wins the $100,000 plus the chance to go to the Bassmaster Classic in Birmingham in February.

Sponsors of the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series include Triton Boats, Mercury Marine, Russellville Tourism & Visitors Bureau, Royal Purple Synthetic Motor Oil, Early Times Kentucky Whisky, Hi-Seas Line, ProBass Networks, and Rejuvenade.
