Evans Wins on Kentucky

By Lisa Talmadge

Paris, TN...July 25, 2009...Dustin Evans of Eads, TN is one step closer to the Bassmaster Classic with his first place victory in the Kentucky division earning $5,000 plus an extra $1000 from Mercury in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series bass tournament held on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes.  Evan`s five bass limit weighed in at 22.32 pounds.

After finishing second last week in the Tennessee Central division also held out of Paris, TN on Kentucky Lake, Evans went right back where he left off the previous week and hammered out enough weight to take the win.  All his fish came from main river ledges between 10 ft to 15 ft a few miles south of the highway 79 bridge.  Dustin concentrated on a 300 yard stretch containing scattered shell beds which yielded a good limit by 9:00 am for the Mercury Pro.  Using XPS fluorocarbon to launch his Carolina rig, Dustin probed the ledges with a full size brush hog which he dyed the head orange and the tail chartreuse to imitate a bream.  Along with dying his bait to imitate the forage, the winner remarked that using his Biosonix was key to getting better quality bites throughout the day.  Evans was able to cull up a few times later in the day from different spots to seal the victory.

Boaters brought 184 fish to the scales with a total weight of 547.16 pounds: second – Chuck Jones of Hopkinsville, KY with 22.23; third – Dewayne West of Hopkinsville, KY with 17.98; fourth – Ben Johnson of Paducah, KY with 17.44; and fifth – Bobby Kilzer of Paris, TN with 17.17.  Boater big bass award went to Harry Barber of Dover, TN for catching a 6.19 pound largemouth.

The co-anglers brought 82 fish to the scales with a total weight of 240.28 pounds.  Nathan Ellet of Cape Girardeau, MO took first on the co-angler side with a total weight of 12.65 pounds.  Remaining top five co-anglers were: second – Dan Basham of Louisville, KY and Shawn Caskey of Mount Sterling, KY with 10.67; fourth – Jeff Risley of Paducah, KY with 9.66; and fifth Oral Meneese of Adairville, KY with 8.82.

The Fifth and final tournament for Division 15 – Kentucky will be held August 22-23, 2009 on Barkley and Kentucky Lakes launching from Kuttawa.
