Beeswax Ramp on Lay Lake Renovation suspended
COLUMBIANA, Ala. — Due to significant construction delays, the renovation of Beeswax Public Boat Ramp on Lay Lake near Columbiana, Ala., will be suspended from March through June 2014 to avoid conflicts with previously scheduled bass tournaments.
The renovation project began July 2013 and will resume on July 1, 2014. Project leaders expect to complete the renovation by late August 2014. The renovation includes modifications to bring the entire facility into compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
“The work will affect a large portion of the parking area and disrupt the normal flow of traffic,” said Damon Abernethy, fisheries development coordinator for the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division. “Because of that we made a decision to delay this portion of the project until after the peak fishing season is over. However, some portions of the project such as the addition of a courtesy pier and ADA-compliant access routes may be completed during spring without any significant impacts to the use of the facility.”
The American Bass Anglers Weekend Bass Series Alabama South Division 2 tournament will be held March 17 out of Beeswax Public Boat Ramp on Lay Lake. For information on the renovation project, call 334-242-3471 or see www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/freshwater/where/reservoirs/lay/access/b/.
