Whitehouse opens up lead in Oklahoma
ATHENS, Ala. – Trenton L. Whitehouse took the early lead after one day of competition in the Toyota Bassmaster Weekend Series South Central Regional Championship, held Oct. 4, 2013, at Fort Gibson Lake in Wagoner, Okla.
Running out of Taylors Ferry Landing in Wagoner to fish the 19,900-acre lake, the Bristow, Okla., angler caught five bass weighing 17.17 pounds on Day 1. He anchored his bag with a 5.63-pound kicker that set the tournament lunker standard for the first day.
In second for the boaters, Jason Horton of Eucha, Okla., landed a five-bass daily tournament limit going 14.59 pounds. Walter A. Andries of Coweta, Okla., holds third with five bass going 14.31 pounds. Bill Gaddis of Vinita, Okla., sits in fourth place with five bass for 14.27 pounds including a 3.71-pound kicker. Todd Driscoll of Jasper, Texas, rounds out the top five boaters with five bass at 14.24 pounds including a 4.29-pound kicker.
In the Co-Angler Division, Bill E. Spaid of Stillwater, Okla., holds the lead after Day 1 with three bass going 8.85 pounds. He capped his catch with a 4.08-pound kicker.
Holding second for the co-anglers, Sammy L. Strong of Orange, Texas, brought in a three-bass division limit for 8.50 pounds including a 3.29-pound kicker. Nick J. Muzljakovich of Wagoner, Okla., sits in third with three bass going 8.42 pounds. Ronnie Stiek of Skiatook, Okla., holds fourth place among the co-anglers with three bass for 7.78 pounds, followed by Patti Campbell of Waxahachie, Texas, with three bass at 7.73 pounds. Star Fields only brought in one bass on the first day of competition, but the 4.27-pounder leads the lunker contest among the co-anglers.
The action continues through Oct. 5. This event features the top 40 boaters and co-anglers representing the Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Southeast Texas and East Texas divisions. After this regional event, the best anglers from this tournament will compete against the top anglers from three other regional events during the BWS National Championship tournament, set for Nov. 6-9, 2013, on Old Hickory Lake near Hendersonville, Tenn. The Boater Division champion will compete in the 2014 Bassmaster Classic, slated for Feb. 21-23 on Lake Guntersville, Ala.
