Nichol leaps ahead on Lake Lanier
ATHENS, Ala. – Dave Nichol set the pace after the first day of competition in the Toyota Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Georgia Division 8 two-day divisional championship, held Sept. 21, 2013, on Lake Lanier.
Running out of Laurel Park in Gainesville, Ga., the hometown angler caught five bass weighing 15.96 pounds on the first day. He anchored his bag with a 3.75-pound kicker.
Holding second for the boaters, Robert L. Croxton lll of Lilburn, Ga., landed a five-bass daily tournament limit going 13.58 pounds with a 3.73-pound kicker. Marty L. Everson of Leesburg, Ga., sits in third with five bass going 12.38 pounds including a 3.06-pound kicker. Lane Wright of Loganville, Ga., holds fourth place with five bass and 11.74 pounds. Chris McMahon of Valdosta, Ga., rounds out the top five boaters on the first day with five bass going 10.79 pounds including a 2.86-pound kicker.
Scott Hayes of Newnan, Ga., placed seventh with five bass and 10.12 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 3.84-pound kicker that leads the Boater Division big bass competition after the first day of action.
In the Co-Angler Division, Chris Saunders of Locust Grove, Ga., leads with three bass going 9.49 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 6.62-pound kicker that took the Day 1 tournament lunker title.
In second for the co-anglers, Ben R. Waldrop of Hiram, Ga., brought in a three-bass daily division limit for 8.63 pounds. Donald S. Dills of Mineral Bluff, Ga., holds third with three bass and 7.34 pounds. James Draffin of Cumming, Ga., sits in fourth place with three bass for 7.23 pounds including a 3.58-pound kicker. Michael Thornton of Jonesboro, Ga., wraps up the top five co-anglers after the first day with three bass at 7.12 pounds
The action continues through Sept. 22, 2013. The top anglers from this division, plus those from the Florida, Alabama South, South Carolina and East Tennessee divisions advance to the two-day regional tournament, slated for Oct. 4-5, 2013, on Lake: Hartwell out of Gum Branch near Hartwell, Ga.
After the four regional tournaments, the top anglers from those events will compete in the BWS National Championship tournament, scheduled for Nov. 6-9, 2013, on Old Hickory Lake near Hendersonville, Tenn. The Boater Division champion will compete in the 2014 Bassmaster Classic, set for Feb. 21-23 on Lake Guntersville, Ala.
