Gwinn jumps out in front on Lake Ouachita
ATHENS, Ala. – Danny Gwinn pulled ahead during the first day of action in the Toyota Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Arkansas Division 12 two-day divisional championship, held Sept. 21, 2013, on Lake Ouachita.
Running out of Mountain Harbor in Mount Ida, Ark., the hometown angler caught five bass weighing 12.37 pounds on the first day. He anchored his bag with a 3.84-pound kicker.
Holding second for the boaters, Shonn Goodwin of Moore, Okla., landed a five-bass daily tournament limit going 9.83 pounds. Bobby Ammons of Waldron, Ark., sits in third with four bass going 8.54 pounds, followed by Spencer G. Grace of Dardanelle, Ark., with four bass for 8.17 pounds. Steve E. Bowman of Little Rock, Ark., rounds out the top five boaters on the first day with four bass and 7.07 pounds.
John Simonof of Jacksonville, Ark., brought in the biggest bass among the boaters on Day 1. It weighed 4.43 pounds. He currently holds eighth place with two bass at 6.01 pounds.
In the Co-Angler Division, Robert J. Bartoszek of Conway, Ark., leads with three bass going 8 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 4.83-pound kicker that set the tournament lunker standard for the first day.
In second for the co-anglers, Scott Lambert of Pottsville, Ark., brought in a three-bass daily division limit for 5.76 pounds. Eric J. Turner of Jacksonville, Ark., holds third with two bass going 4.50 pounds. Right behind, Dalton J. Craig of White Hall, Ark., sits in fourth place with three bass for 3.85 pounds. Tabitha Lancaster of Arkadelphia, Ark., wraps up the top five co-anglers after the first day with one bass going 1.46 pounds.
The action continues through Sept. 22, 2013. The top anglers from the this division plus the South East Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas East divisions will compete in the two-day regional tournament, slated for Oct. 4-5, 2013, on Lake Fort Gibson out of Taylor’s Ferry Landing near Wagoner, Okla.
The top anglers from the four regional tournaments will compete in the BWS National Championship tournament, scheduled for November 6-9, 2013, on Old Hickory Lake near Hendersonville, Tenn. The Boater Division champion will compete in the 2014 Bassmaster Classic, set for Feb. 21-23 on Lake Guntersville, Ala.
