Buquet sits in top on Atchafalaya Basin
ATHENS, Ala. – Ronnie R. Buquet took the early lead during the first day of action in the Toyota Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Louisiana Division 13 two-day divisional championship, held Sept. 14, 2013, on the Atchafalaya Basin.
Running out of Doiron’s Landing near Morgan City, La., the Houma, La., angler caught five bass weighing 16.84 pounds for a Day 1 lead. He anchored his bag with a 3.90-pound kicker to also take the lead in the Boater Division big bass competition.
In second for the boaters, Casey St. Romain of Morgan City, La., landed a five-bass tournament limit going 12.60 pounds with a 3.21-pound kicker. Billy Billeaud of Lafayette, La., holds third for the boaters with five bass going 10.68 pounds. Holding fourth place, Travis Warthen of St. Gabriel, La., sits in fourth with a five-bass limit for 10.45 pounds including a 3.21-pound kicker. Tracy M. Gautreaux of Raceland, La., rounds out the top five boaters after one day of action with five bass at 10.22 pounds.
In the Co-Angler Division, Caleb Sumrall of New Iberia, La., sits in first place with three bass going 7.94 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 3.92-pound kicker to set the tournament lunker standard for the first day.
Sitting in second for the co-anglers, Terry S. Posey of Denham Springs, La., brought in a three-bass daily division limit for 7.08 pounds including a 3.91-pound kicker. William V. Bloodworth of Baton Rouge, La., holds third with three bass going 6.45 pounds. After the first day, Ryan Simpkins of Walker, La., occupies the fourth place position with three bass for 6.02 pounds. Chuck R. Foster of Walker, La., completes the list of the top five co-anglers with three bass at 5.82 pounds.
The top anglers from this division, plus those from the North Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee Central divisions advance to the two-day regional tournament, slated for Oct. 4-5, 2013, on Neely Henry Lake out of Coosa Landing near Gadsden, Ala.
After the four regional tournaments, the top anglers from those events will compete in the BWS National Championship tournament, scheduled for Nov. 6-9, 2013, on Old Hickory Lake near Hendersonville, Tenn. The Boater Division champion will compete in the 2014 Bassmaster Classic, set for Feb. 21-23 on Lake Guntersville, Ala.
