Doug Thompson Wins D-42 Divisional on AR River/Maumelle
By: John Simonof

Division 42 of the American Fishing Tour held its divisional championship tournament of the 2014 season on the Arkansas River, Maumelle Pool, 23 and 24 August 2014. Daytime temperatures were the hottest of the year, reaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday. Few clouds and almost no wind made for tough fishing conditions. Most anglers were able to bring in a few fish with only one angler finding a five fish limit both days. Nineteen anglers caught 81 fish weighing 154.93 pounds – a 1.91 pound average.
Doug Thompson topped the leaderboard with ten fish weighing 16.62 pounds. Doug fished a Yum worm on a shaky-head in deep water to catch his fish. Doug took home $936 for his weekend effort.
Coming in second place was David Lea with four fish for 16.51 pounds. David employed a biffle bug to catch his fish and haul in $554.
Rounding out the top three was Doug Shrum. Doug threw a jig and caught eight fish weighing 14.02 pounds. For his efforts, Doug took home $182.
The D42 Angler of the Year with 1184 points is Chuck Pritchard. Chuck plans on attending the National Championship on Old Hickory to complete for the National Angler of the Year title and a new Triton boat.
Next Divisional Tournament: This division’s next tournament will be 1 Nov 2014 on the Arkansas River launching out of the Pine Bluff Regional Park. The 1 Nov 2014 tournament will be the start of the 2015 season.

These anglers earn valuable points toward the divisional angler of the year title. The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round at the AFT Championship. In addition, the top 500 anglers from the various divisions will earn the right to compete in the three-day ABA, AFT National Championship tournament.

The American Fishing Tour offers low cost, close to home bass tournaments that are designed for the weekend angler. All ABA anglers fish for money and points. The points advance the angler to their divisional championship and the top 500 anglers in the US are invited to the American Fishing Tour National Championship for this fall on Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, TN.
