Circuit Veterans Rule on Medicine Lake
Athens, Al - Conrad Guttenfelder won the American Fishing Tour Minnesota division 44 tournament with five fish weighing 16.21 pounds held on Medicine Lake on 06/29/2014.
Regulars on Medicine Lake claim that the biggest bass can be found on rock piles scattered in the deeper parts of the main lake. ABA Minnesota 44 has a fine corps of deep water anglers who consistently bring in bragging sized weigh bags, and once again their skills at reading contours and finding bass paid off on June 29.
While the rock piles weren't really paying off, the top three still managed to find their fish and their patient and determined techniques overcame a challenging and tentative bite. Conrad Guttenfelder, normally found in the deepest places, adjusted his game and filled the winning bag of 16.21 pounds by painstaking crawling a heavily weighted senko along the milfoil edge at 6-8 feet.
Todd Zitzloff, another deep water specialist, used a similar approach with his favorite Sweet Beaver to put together a nice bag of 14.31 pounds. Scott Sarff, usually a fixture on deep humps with a jig, rigged up a worm and found his fish in 8 feet of milfoil and brought in a nice 13.54 pound limit.
Many outstanding anglers found it challenging to put a limit in the livewell on this past Sunday, and gave a hearty hand to these circuit veterans who demonstrate week after week what hard work, flexibility and fishing know-how can produce in even the toughest conditions.
