Todd Anderson Wins Minnesota 2014 Kickoff Event
Athens, Al - Todd Anderson won the American Fishing Tour Minnesota division 44 tournament with five fish limit weighing 14.67 pounds held on Clearwater on 06/01/2014.
The winter of 2013-14 was a particularly brutal one in Minnesota, and its effects are still reverberating as Summer 2014 begins. ABA Minnesota 44 anglers launched the new season with their usual optimism as the District schedule began on Clearwater Lake June 1. A late ice thaw, lagging weed development, and a major weekend storm system left them scrambling to find a viable post-spawn strategy, and as usual the hardy Minnesota boys figured it out.
On a day that featured driving rain, roaring blasts of wind, and the occasional appearance of lightning on the lake, Todd Anderson hung on to his pattern, doggedly working emergent reed beds with a green and white Senko.
Longtime director and ABA Hall of Famer George Miserendino was close behind with a hefty bag of 13.52 pounds, all caught in under two feet of water using a jig and craw alternating with black Senkos. George reported steady catches throughout the day, and had expected good action, but apparently the violent storms which rocked the area overnight had put some of the prefishing lunkers seen off the feedbag on tournament day.
Scott Frace pulled in a close third with 12.98 pounds caught on jigs and Ribit frogs in the reed stubble which provided the only noteworthy cover for fish on the main lake, which anglers reported was weeks behind in normal weedline development.
All in all the District enjoyed a good turnout and a respectable day of fishing despite the challenging conditions the members faced.
Big Bass winner: Todd Anderson for his big bass weight of 3.69 pounds
