Maryland Anglers Kick Off Their 2014 Season at the Potomac
Maryland anglers of the ABA Weekend Bass Series will make their 2014 debut at the Potomac on May 17, 2014. The event launch and weigh in will take place at Smallwood State Park in Marbury, MD. Registration for the event will also take place at Smallwood State Park on Friday, April 25 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm. Brett Page of King George, VA won a WBS event at the Potomac on April 27, 2013. Brett won the event with 18.38 pounds. He caught his winning limit in shallow water using a green pumpkin tube.
Jermell Fleming of Harrisburg, PA won the co-angler division of the April 27, 2014 event. Jermell had 12.87 pounds along with a 5.39 pound bass that took the Big Bass prize. He caught most of his fish on a chrome/blue Rat-L-Trap in three to six feet of water.
Entry fees for ABA Weekend Bass Series one-day events are $200 for boaters and $100 for co-anglers. Weekend Bass Series events are open to all ABA members. ABA membership dues are $25 per year and include a new member gift packet along with a subscription to American Bass Anglers magazine.
Anglers that finish the season in the top 40 points rankings will have opportunity to advance to the WBS Regional Championship to compete for two new Triton Boats at High Rock Lake in Salisbury, NC on September 26 and 27, 2014. Anglers can advance from the WBS Regional Championship to the Ray Scott Championship on Lake Wheeler in Decatur, AL November 12 – 15, 2014 to compete for a $100,000 first place boater prize and a $50,000 first place co-angler prize.
Anglers can also cash in on contingency programs such as Triton Gold, Atlas Awards, Royal Purple Awards, and Mercury/Motorguide bonus money.
