Alabama North Anglers to Compete at Wheeler on May 17th
Alabama North anglers of the ABA Weekend Bass Series will make their third stop of the year at Lake Wheeler on May 17, 2014. The event launch and weigh in will take place at Ingalls Harbor in Decatur, AL. Registration for the event will, also, take place at Ingalls Harbor on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm. Josh Bragg of Jacksonville AL concentrated on post spawn bass to win the boater side of the 2013 Alabama North event at Wheeler on April 13, 2013. Josh brought in five bass weighing 21.20 pounds to take the win. He caught his fish on an Alabama rig in a rock lined ditch at the back of a spawning flat.
The co-angler champion was Curtis Norton of Decatur, AL. Curtis won with three bass weighing 14.50 pounds including the 6.67 pound co-angler Big Bass of the event. He used jigs, crankbaits, and Chatterbaits to catch his winning limit of bass.
Entry fees for ABA Weekend Bass Series one-day events are $200 for boaters and $100 for co-anglers. Weekend Bass Series events are open to all ABA members. ABA membership dues are $25 per year and include a new member gift packet along with a subscription to American Bass Anglers magazine.
Anglers that finish the season in the top 40 points rankings will have opportunity to advance to the WBS Regional Championship to compete for two new Triton Boats at Lake Chickamauga in Dayton, TN on September 26 and 27, 2014. Anglers can advance from the WBS Regional Championship to the Ray Scott Championship on Lake Wheeler in Decatur, AL November 12 – 15, 2014 to compete for a $100,000 first place boater prize and a $50,000 first place co-angler prize.
Anglers can also cash in on contingency programs such as Triton Gold, Atlas Awards, Royal Purple Royal Treatment, and Mercury/Motorguide bonus money.
