Raymond and Michelle Archer win on Horsetooth Reservoir
Raymond and Michelle Archer won the American Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Colorado Division 13 tournament, held May 4, 2014 on Horsetooth Reservoir.
Running out of the South Bay near Ft.Collins, the team from Greeley, Colorado, caught four bass weighing 5.37 pounds with a 2.05-pound kicker. For the victory, they earned a check for $375. Ray and Michelle caught their fish on senkos & tubes.
In second for the 5 teams, Chad and Stephanie Brekke of Windsor, Colorado, also caught four bass weighing 4.22 pounds with a 1.46-pound kicker. They caught their fish on tube jigs as well.
Taking third place, the team of Chris Jones and Lyndsay Baker of Milliken, Colorado, caught four bass weighing 4.04 pounds with a 1.32-pound kicker.
In fourth place, Jim Strawbridge and Sharon Below of Frederick, Colorado, caught only two bass weighing 3.26 pounds with a 1.99-pound kicker. Anglers Lucas and Kristie Tucker of Mead, Colorado, rounded out the top five teams with only one bass weighing 1.44 pounds.
The big fish winner was also Raymond and Michelle with that 2.05 pound smallmouth. Jim and Sharon was a close second with a 1.99 pound smallmouth, but fell short by .06 of a pound. It was a tough day of fishing for all the couples. We are just getting into spring like weather here in Colorado, but Mother Nature will not make up here mind. Cold fronts and snow keep on pushing the water temps back down, once the water stabilize the fishing will be back on.
All ABA American Couples Series events involve a team format with each team composed of one man and one woman. Although many married couples compete together as teams, some teams consist of boyfriend and girlfriend combinations, parent-child combinations or just two friends. Contestants between 14 and 18 years old may participate with a parent’s written permission.
The next divisional tournament will be held June 1, 2014 on Boyd Lake, in Loveland, Colorado. The top angling couples from across the nation earn the right to compete in the annual American Bass Anglers Couples Series National Championship tournament.
American Bass Anglers commitment is to provide low cost, close to home tournaments for the weekend angler and at the same time offer each competitor an upward path for individual angler progression.
