Swearngin Wins Saturday/Cox Wins Sunday
American Bass Anglers Division 126 offered held two 1-day tournaments May 10 and May 11, 2014. The bite was very close both days, anglers reporting it was hard to feel the fish. Most limits were smaller keepers, with nothing over 3.5 lbs brought in. The weather was warm, windy and sunny, with a few clouds moving in occasionally.
Robert Swearngin took the Saturday win with a 5-fish limit that weighed 11.5. Second place went to Mike Foree with 11.20; 3rd place was Becky Minor with 11.17. Weights were very close and ounces made a big difference. Big Bass went to Foree with a largemouth that weighed 3.37.
Sunday was very similar to Saturday; the places just moved around a bit. Carl Cox took 1st with 11.76; Jim Banks was 2nd with 11.32 followed by Robert Swearngin in 3rd with 11.11. Big Bass was Warren West with a 3.463.23 largemouth.
“This was another exciting tournament,” reported tournament director, Becky Minor. “We welcomed two 14-year old anglers, Michael Henderson and Austin Ware.” An interesting note was that Henderson is the son of Jim Banks; Henderson took 4th place on Saturday and Banks took 2nd place on Sunday. If you have been following these fishing stories, you will will remember that Banks and Henderson won 2nd Big Bass on Lake of the Ozarks just a few weeks ago.
The next D126 tournament is the 2-day Championship to be held June 7-8, 2014. Anglers must qualify to fish this tournament by fishing at least four 1-day tournaments.
ABA was designed for the week-end angler and is open to boaters and non-boaters. It is a draw format with partner pairing taking place the morning of each tournament. Anglers from age 14 can enter these tournaments. They will be fishing for cash and prizes as well as points that qualify them to fish a National Championship. Prizes for this event were donated by Happy O’s Resort, Eagle Claw Tackle, Albers Marine, The Outboard Doctor and Antlers Ridge.
